RE:March 2014: Providing Naloxone
Naloxone is a drug used to counter the effects of opiate overdose. Naloxone is specifically used to counteract life-threatening depression of the central nervous system and respiratory system. It is marketed under various trademarks including Narcan, Nalone, and Narcanti, and should not be confused with naltrexone, an opioid receptor antagonist used for dependence treatment rather than emergency overdose treatment. Naloxone can be administered as a shot or nasal spray.
